Project Portfolio:
Land Rover - Camper (LR-C)
Design Concept by Simon James Cooksey
Introduction
The Land Rover Camper (LR-C) bridges the gap between urban reality and off-road freedom. It is a dual-identity vehicle designed for the modern adventurer: a refined, practical, and highly functional city commuter by week, and a rugged, self-contained overland beast by weekend. This project explores a clean-sheet integration of Land Rover’s legendary all-terrain DNA with high-end, space-optimized marine and aerospace interior architecture, empowering users to move seamlessly from the office parking garage to the most remote corners of the map.
Aims & Objectives
The Problem: Traditional motorhomes are bloated, modified commercial vans that lack true mechanical off-road capability. Conversely, hard-core overlanding rigs are often too aggressive, unrefined, or physically oversized to navigate tight city streets or standard multi-story parking structures.
The Aim: To redefine the dual-use segment by engineering an all-terrain camper that maintains the exact exterior footprint of a standard luxury SUV while offering the full off-grid living amenities of a traditional motorhome.
Key Objectives:
Dual-Profile Geometry: Design a variable-height or highly packaged silhouette that clears 2.1-meter city parking garages but expands into a spacious living habitat at camp.
Premium Space Optimization: Develop an ultra-clever interior layout for two occupants, using multi-functional, high-grade materials inspired by luxury yacht design.
Uncompromised Capability: Maintain Land Rover's iconic, robust design language, heavy-duty approach/departure angles, and sophisticated geometric clearance.
Top Features & Innovation
1. The "Chameleon" Kinetic Roof System
By week, the roof sits completely flush, maintaining a aerodynamic, low-profile stance for city efficiency and garage clearance. At the press of a button, a motorized, insulated composite shell rises vertically, revealing full standing headroom, 360-degree panoramic viewing windows, and an integrated stargazing sky-light over the sleeping platform.
2. Stealth Workspace to Luxury Galley
The interior layout is a masterclass in hidden utility. During the week, the rear cabin features an elegant, ergonomic workstation with integrated charging bays for remote digital work. On Friday night, modular panels slide away to reveal a flush-induction double cooktop, a hidden 40L compressor fridge, and a solid-surface sink with an integrated water filtration system.
3. Integrated "Dry-Zone" Mudroom & Air-Lock
Designed for actual outdoor environments, the rear entry features a heavy-duty, drainable composite floor zone. Outdoor gear, wet hiking boots, or recovery equipment can be stored and hose-cleaned right at the threshold before stepping onto the premium interior flooring.

Expected Outcome
The LR-C establishes a distinct product segment: The Executive Overlander. It completely removes the need for a secondary weekend vehicle, appealing directly to urban professionals who refuse to compromise their weekday lifestyle or their weekend freedom. It brings authentic architectural design and true all-terrain capability together in one beautiful, cohesive package.
