Gigahorse 5"x7"
Original Graphite Sketch by SJ Cooksey
5" x 7" GRAPHITE Pencil SKETCH on Watercolor Paper FRAMED
Capturing the raw, brutal power of Immortan Joe's Gigahorse in a 5x7 graphite pencil sketch on watercolor paper has been a thrilling challenge.
I'm SJCooksey, and this piece is a testament to my love for the Mad Max universe. The Gigahorse, that monstrous symbol of Immortan Joe's tyranny, is a spectacle of automotive excess. Did you know it's actually two 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVilles stacked on top of each other? And those aren't just for show – it's powered by two supercharged 502 big block V8 engines! It took two months of intense work to build this beast for the film, and you can see every ounce of that effort in its design.
In my sketch, I've focused on the sheer scale and aggression of the vehicle. You can see the heavy plow, the custom wheels, and those four hand-made exhaust pipes that scream power. The watercolor paper's texture adds a gritty, post-apocalyptic feel, perfectly complementing the graphite's starkness.
Here are some more fun facts that really made the Gigahorse stand out to me:
* The transmission, a Turbo 400 automatic, had to be rebuilt every single day during filming because of the immense stress it endured.
* The upper shell wasn't just for show; it housed a flamethrower and turret gun, turning the Gigahorse into a mobile fortress.
* Colin Gibson, the production designer, perfectly encapsulated Immortan Joe's character by creating a vehicle that was all about having 'a pair of everything' in a world of scarcity.
This sketch, like all my work, is handcrafted with passion. I pour my heart into each line, striving to capture the essence of the subject. If you're a Mad Max fan or simply appreciate the beauty of graphite art, this piece is for you.
